At Hakeem Schools, we believe in our students gaining wisdom through learning fostered in an inclusive, nurturing educational environment.

Our schools provide a life-long journey of learning for our students. We encourage young minds to enjoy gaining knowledge in a supportive educational context. Our aim is to foster the development of young adults who will be driven by ideals of equality, human rights, and a passion for the creation of a just world. We operate as a secular co-educational set of schools.

At Hakeem Schools we follow a similar school curriculum to that studied in Australia and Britain. This curriculum forms the basis of Hakeem Schools, but extends outwards to form an educational support system with a strong community-building base.

Among our students, we have seen particularly strong results in mathematics. This does not refer just to one or two top performers but has been a trend over years.
While some of our maths whizzes have ambitions to go into fields like medicine or science, they tend to be hampered by financial constraints.
It is rare for a student from a poor background in Sierra Leone to go to university.
Higher education is costly itself, as our textbooks, and in all of Freetown, the nation’s capital, we have only one university. We are hoping that this will change.

Education delivery

Our education system is divided into four stages: primary education (six years), junior secondary education (three years) and either senior secondary (three years) or tertiary vocational education (three years). Then comes university or other tertiary education (four years) for those able, and wanting to continue.

Our curriculum operates in line with the National Curriculum Framework and Guidelines for Basic Education set down by the new Sierra Leonia government.
