In March 2019, we invited former students from Hakeem Schools to participate in forming a committee to help run the schools and support the school community. So far we have 34 active members.
Our aim is for the committee to support both the teachers and the school in general, and one of our first tasks is to find new ways to attract more people to become involved in the farming and bakery programs we run as vocational training initiatives.
Our farming and baking, as well as sewing programs, work on several levels to assist build the school community. They provide training in skills that can help participants to learn what's needed to develop and set up their own small business. They offer a way for those involved to create income streams to help support school fees, and also their outcomes offer resources for the school.
